Charles Street Gardens is an organic community garden located in the heart of Sunnyvale–it is located at 433 Charles Street and it’s open to all Sunnyvale residents. Whether you want to till your own plot, help in the group garden, or learn new garden skills and approaches, we’d love to have you join us.

We currently have a waiting list for individual garden plots, but please fill out the form here and we’ll add you to the list of eager gardeners. And if you’d like to dig in right away, you can join our group garden; just mention your group garden interest in the “how did you hear about us” field.

In addition to the 92 individual garden plots, our Food Forest project grows hundreds of pounds of food for hungry families, and the Master Gardeners’ demonstration garden shows examples of a wide variety of things that work well in Sunnyvale gardens. Come on by to see what’s growing.

We’ve had trouble with vandalism in the past, so unfortunately we have to keep the garden gates locked unless there’s someone in the garden. Please feel free to give us a shout when you see us working away or to drop by when we’ve got an event scheduled. We hope to see you soon!

Want to be kept in the loop on what’s going on in the gardens? Email and we’ll keep you informed.

Enjoy the gardens Tuesdays from 11-1

We’re delighted to announce that the garden gates will be flung wide open to welcome the community every Tuesday from 11-1pm. (Rain cancels.)

Bring your lunch, bring a friend, or bring a question for the Master Gardeners. (Master Gardeners take off around noon, so come early if you can.) We’ve got a cluster of picnic tables and chairs that are easy to move, so whether you want company or contemplation, there’s a place for you here. Whatever you choose, we invite you to enjoy Sunnyvale’s community garden!

We hope to see you soon.

Charles Street & Full Circle Farms

Charles Street Gardens and Full Circle Farms are sister organizations that are both dedicated to the renewal of local, sustainable food systems. At Charles Street this shows up as renting organic gardening space to Sunnyvale gardeners, classes on growing your own food and a wide variety of activities that take place in the garden.

Full Circle Farms, on the other hand, is a production farm complete with CSA and farm stand produce. Full Circle also hosts a variety of programs and opportunities–from tours, to summer camp, to volunteer days, to skill share workshops.

If you’re interested in sustainable food systems in the Sunnyvale area, you owe it to yourself to get acquainted with Full Circle Farms and Charles Street Gardens.

Rose pruning for beginners Jan 10, 2-3:00

Join us at Charles Street Gardens as our experts walk you through the ins and outs of Sunnyvale rose pruning. Then they’ll guide you as you snip away. You’ll leave with the confidence you need to prune your home roses and those of your neighbors. Bring pruners and gloves (if you have them) and your willingness to learn.

Tomato Seed Swap and Sale Jan 17th 3-4:30

Come swap your spare specialty tomato seeds for some of ours. Or…. if you haven’t had a chance to purchase wild and wonderful varieties, swing on by so we can sell you tiny packets of six seeds for a quarter. What a deal! We’ll also have some mainstream tomatoes for those who prefer.

Herbert Hoover had visions of a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage; me, I dream of a tomato in every yard. For all who share that dream, we want to make it easy and affordable for you with our tomato seed swap (and sale).

We’re hoping our neighbors will bring their spare seeds to swap for some of ours, but just in case no one brings their extras, we’ve purchased some of our favorites in bulk to have on hand for folks who want tomato seeds at a bargain price. At the very barest minimum, we’ll have loads of: Amish Paste, Cherokee Purple, and Small Red Cherry Heirloom seeds available.

We’ll happily accept your seeds (no older than 2 years old) for our seeds (new this year), or sell you a packet of 6 seeds for a quarter.

Of course we’ll also have small quantities of specialty tomatoes available–we’ve just listed the ones we could buy affordably in bulk, so you know you can count on them to be there.

Want to help with the event? We would love to have you! Whether you want to portion seeds into little pouches ahead of time, want to help get the word out to your neighborhood (and beyond), help on swap day itself, or anything in between, please contact us at Email us today and be an integral part of this inaugural event. (And be among the first to get a peek at the seeds!)
